SAILI OAK
Indian Classical Vocalist
Indian Classical Vocalist
Born in Mumbai, Saili Oak’s musical voyage began when most children are still learning to speak — she was three when melody first took root in her voice. From those early days, her path has been one of deep devotion and luminous artistry. A finalist on Zee Marathi SaReGaMaPa, she is today a senior disciple of the esteemed Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, one of the foremost exponents of the Jaipur–Atrauli Gharana.
By the age of seventeen, Saili had already captured national attention, winning the All India Classical Music Competition. A Sangeet Visharad from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, she has since been honored with awards such as the Pt. Jasraj Yuva Award, Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande Yuva Award, and the Gaanwardhan Award.
On stage, Saili’s singing unfolds like a conversation between discipline and imagination — her khayal is admired for its architectural elegance, her raga explorations for their clarity, poise, and rhythmic vitality. Every phrase bears the quiet authority of tradition and the freshness of an ever-curious mind.
While deeply rooted in Hindustani classical music, Saili’s voice has also found resonance in the spaces where Indian and Western traditions meet. She has performed with ensembles including the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Albany Symphony, Richmond Symphony, LACO and has graced major international festivals such as the Ojai Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Festival, and the Zauberklang Festival in Switzerland. Her artistry is captured on albums such as Beyond, American Mirror, Sing About It, Shatter and KALA — works that celebrate dialogue across musical worlds.
As Programs Director of the non-profit Shastra, Saili curates and co-hosts the annual “Composing with Indian Voice” workshop in the United States and “Raga Meets Symphony” in India, nurturing new languages of collaboration. She also lends her voice and mentorship to Street Symphony in Los Angeles, bringing the gift of music to those on the margins.
An ardent educator, Saili leads her own vocal studio, SailiMusic, guiding students with the same care and insight that define her performances. Her commitment to musical dialogue has led her to share her work at institutions including Salem State University, Smith College, Kaufmann Music Center, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of South Florida’s Composition in Asia Conference.
Alongside her musical accomplishments, Saili is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program — a testament to her belief that precision and creativity, intellect and intuition, are all threads of the same tapestry.
Musically, Esmail interweaves the Western-leaning sound of the chorus (albeit with some Indian turns of harmonic phrase and glissandi) with the pivotal sound of a frequent collaborator, bedazzling Indian vocalist Saili Oak, along with tabla player Abhiman Kaushal as a foil for regular Master Chorale percussionist Theresa Dimond. The Indian musicians heeded the highly disciplined but also naturally improvisatory call of their lineage, seamlessly winding through the structured “paper music” nature of the chorus.
Saili gave an opening performance at the 'Mahesh Kale Live’ concert in San Diego, organized by Spica Global Arts
Saili has lent her vocals to the tracks ‘Samay’ and ‘To Zion’ on Trevor Hall’s album ’KALA’. Above is a still from a live performance of ‘Samay’ with Trevor Hall at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO
Reena Esmail & Saili Oak co-hosted the release event of their album ‘Beyond’ at the Rosebud Coffee in Pasadena, CA. Saili performed some of the pieces from the album with Salastina Music Society and the concert was followed by a social hour.

Songs for Hindustani Vocalist, Soprano and Sinfonietta is a product of the Tucker’s growing fascination with Indian Classical singing. She began working with acclaimed vocalist Saili Oak in 2016, and couldn’t wait for the opportunity to create a big project with her. Three Songs would not have been possible without her guidance, open-mindedness and long, long phone calls. The project, premiere at the University of Texas Austin in 2018, and Saili’s residency of singing workshops were generously funded by the Richard E. Rainwater Award for American Music and the South Asia Institute of the University of Texas.
Tonality presented a piece composed by composer, Reena Esmail, "This Love Between Us" (Movement VI) at the "Put Your Guns Down" Reprise Concert at First Congregational Church on January 7th, 2018. This piece is also featured on Tonality’s album ‘Sing About It’ to be released on February 1, 2019.
